About Us
I grew up training in Isshin-Ryu karate, and when I began my graduate work in sport psychology, I began understanding the science behind so much of the mental game our karate masters passed down. One of the major philosophies of the style is, “The body should be able to change direction at any time.” As with many karate lessons, this philosophy isn’t just about the body; we must also be able to change directions mentally. We sometimes need to pivot our ways of thinking, feeling, and doing. Sometimes, our pivots will be big and have us going in a very new direction; sometimes, the pivots will be smaller and have us making less noticeable but still significant changes.
As I built my sport psychology business, I wanted to be sure to emphasize the connection between the mind and body. The name "Pivot" captured that balance and connection between grounded and flexible. Pivot Sport Psychology Consulting, LLC is a small and growing business that works with performers at all levels to help them identify and practice ways of adjusting their mental game. We also have a Mentorship Program where graduate students in the field can come earn some or all of their 400 mentored hours toward the Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) credential awarded through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
Our Values
POLISHED
We cultivate information, programs, and media based on the scientific framework of sport psychology using researched-backed practices. We desire to make the science fun and shiny. We create programs with our specific audience in mind. We prefer quality over quantity.
EVOLVING
We are constantly sharing and revising based on the latest research. We strive to unlearn or revise any past theories or practices and help others do the same. We continuously look for better, more efficient ways to do and share the work. We incorporate regular reflection and consultation of outside, different views into our processes.
ENGAGING
We work together so that knowledge expands and isn’t limited to one practitioner or philosophy. We are willing to do hard work so results are seen. We deliver information in a way that engages the audience and makes them desire to learn more.
AUTHENTIC
We seek out individuals who are authentic in their story-telling, transparent in their sharing, and generous in their openness to discussion. We practice the skills we teach and share our experiences and goals honestly.
